The North Carolina Space Grant, in partnership with the Connecticut Space Grant, is hosting its first Aircraft Readiness Engineering Workshop in the summer of 2014 in collaboration with North Carolina State University, the United States Marine Corps, the United States Navy Fleet Readiness Center-East, and Craven Community College.

The 2014 Aircraft Readiness Engineering Workshop will provide students with a unique experience that will make them better engineers when they enter the workforce.  Students will gain practical experience as they work directly with Department of Defense engineers and gain insights from several perspectives such as users (pilots), manufacturing, support and design. 

Workshop instruction will take place alongside practicing engineers at Fleet Readiness Center-East and Craven Community College.  Students will experience:

Havelock, North Carolina

The workshop will begin at 5:00 PM on Sunday June 22, 2014 and will end at 5:00 PM on Friday June 27, 2014. During the workshop, participants will have scheduled activities from 8:00 AM through 8:00 PM.  A printable flyer with daily schedule (tentative) can be downloaded here.

Registration is $1300 per student and includes:

Participants will be responsible for travel expenses to New Bern, NC (Coastal Carolina Regional airport). Workshop related transportation will be provided once in New Bern.

Workshop registration and transportation assistance may be available through your state's Space Grant Consortium. Contact your state's Space Grant office to inquire.

Applications will be accepted until April 1, 2014. A complete application package includes all required items in the on-line application along with receipt of the two references. Only complete application packages will be considered. Preference will be given to Mechanical and Aerospace engineering majors and to students with at least two years of college in any engineering program completed by summer 2014.

Notification of acceptance will be made through e-mail on April 15, 2014. Accepted applicants will receive workshop acceptance paperwork that must be completed and returned with the workshop fee (or certification of payment by a third party) by May 6, 2014.
